This project invites students to explore the art of creating original characters from imagination. Through guided steps and creative prompts, they will learn how to design characters with personality, clear visual identity, and expressive features.
Students will:
Explore basic anatomy and stylization, learning how proportions, shapes, and poses affect the character’s look and feel.
Experiment with facial expressions and body language, developing emotional range and storytelling through gesture.
Design costumes, props, and details that reflect each character’s background, role, and personality.
Work with various drawing tools and media, from pencil and ink to color or digital materials.
Practice silhouette and shape language, understanding how to make a character visually distinct and recognizable.
Develop a character sheet, including front/back views, expressions, and key poses.
Complete a final character illustration, integrating all design elements into a polished presentation.
This project builds creativity, visual communication skills, and confidence in developing unique characters that could belong in a story, game, comic, or animated world.
