- Using various materials in expressive illustration

This project encourages students to think beyond traditional drawing by exploring storytelling, visual expression, and material experimentation. Through hands-on practice, students will learn to translate their ideas into compelling illustrations using different tools and approaches.
Students will:
Engage in hands-on practice with various materials, such as pencil, ink, watercolor, markers, collage, or mixed media—experimenting with textures, layering, and mark-making to find their own voice in illustration.
Apply design principles and expressive ideas, learning how to balance composition, contrast, rhythm, and focal points while visually communicating a mood, message, or character.
Explore creative storytelling through imagery, focusing on imaginative thinking, visual metaphors, and emotional tone rather than realism alone.
Develop concept sketches and visual plans, refining their ideas step-by-step before completing a final piece that combines thoughtful design with personal expression.
Gain confidence in visual problem-solving, as they make artistic choices that reflect both narrative intention and individual style.
This project helps students discover the unique ways illustration can connect emotion and imagination, while expanding their creative toolkit and visual literacy.
